Nanotechnology, the manipulation of matter on an atomic or molecular scale, holds great promise for revolutionising various fields, from medicine and manufacturing to environmental remediation. However, the unchecked proliferation of nanotechnology also poses significant risks to civilisation, including the existential threat of "grey goo." 

The Grey Goo Scenario:

One of the darkest aspects associated with nanotechnology is the "grey goo" scenario, a hypothetical situation where self-replicating nanobots consume all matter on Earth to fuel their replication, resulting in the transformation of the entire planet into a mass of self-replicating nano-machines.
